Highkicking Zora Lux danced at her 100th birthday in 2005
Zora Marie Lux was born June 3, 1905 in Machias, Washington as Zora Marie Hall. She was the daughter of Della Barstow and Elmer Hall.
She was a cheerleader and basketball player in high school and her basketball team won the state championship in 1920.
In 1929, she married Clyde Lux and they had three daughters: Lea Rae, Loa Dee, and Lou Ann.
During the 1940s and 50s, Zora wrote newspaper columns for the Anacortes American. She was a chief cook at the Lux family restaurant, Bridgeway Café and also worked at a restaurant called the Soup Kitchen in Seattle. Zora went to college in her late 60s and became a nurse. She operated the Red Cross organization at Dewey Beach.
She was very active in the community where she served as the PTA president for Anacortes High School (and brought the Harlem Globetrotters to Anacortes in the 1950s), volunteered for the Senior Center, set the record for the 100 and 200 meter race for omen 90 years and older in 1995, and was known for dancing and various town functions.
Zora passed away on July 23, 2006 in Anacortes, Washington at 101 years old.
