Raymond Baer Lowman was born June 4, 1890 in Buck Creek, Tippecanoe, Indiana. He was the eldest child of Beatrice Victoria Baer and William Alvin Lowman.

His father and mother moved to Anacortes with him and his younger sister, Ella, in December of 1892. Five more siblings were to follow, after their arrival.

Ray grew up in the salmon canning industry that his father had started in Anacortes. He worked in “The Coast Fish Company” that later changed to “White Crest Canning Company” then “Puget Fisheries”. The plant was later sold to “Far West” and became the “Whitney-Fidalgo Seafoods” and is currently “Trident Seafood Corporation”. After Ray stepped away from the canning business in 1946, he went into some masonry work until 1974.

Raymond married Jean Faith Perry on June 4, 1913 in Covington, Ohio. They made their home at the corner of 5th and “L” Ave in Anacortes. This was where they also raised their five children: Beatrice “Betty” Annette, William “Bill” Perry, John “Jack” Perry, Robert “Bob” Whitney, and George “Jimmy” Raymond Lowman. (George passed away his senior year of high school in 1940.) They later built their family home on 8th St.

Raymond passed away on March 25, 1974 and is interred at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes, Washington.
